Client: PrivacyGuard UK

PrivacyGuard UK

OVERVIEW:

PrivacyGuard UK was the last site that I built at Affinion International and it was a redesign of an existing site. The design team mocked up the designs for this redesign based on another existing product so I was given the PSD's to make into an HTML site on the .NET framework. This site was one that introduced a lot of SEO targeted content, in terms of keyword usage, page titles, call to actions, and use of HTML tags. I also created a blog for this site using Blogger and integrated this into the site, where the Blogger site was designed by myself to look exactly like the parent site. I also integrated the Blogger feeds into this main site by using Feedburner. Another feature I introduced was the "sticky header" where the header of the site remains fixed at the top of the users' screen regardless of whether they scroll up or down. The purpose behind this was to always have vital information available to the user, in terms of the telephone number to call and sign up to the product and also the sign up button to enrol on the service, as well as providing easy navigation at all times within the site. This sticky header was written with just a few lines of javascript. The footer was designed as an integrated sitemap which would provide a good structure of the site to Google when indexing the site. One other feature that is also present on this site is solution to adhere to the EU Cookie Directive that was introduced to all EU websites in early 2012. Through the use of javascript, the site provides a pop up box on the left hand side of the screen to alert users that it uses cookies and also a link to the Privacy Policy as well as instructions on how to remove cookies from the browser if the user does not wish to use cookies. If the user clicks on this pop up box and/or clicks on the Privacy Policy link within that pop up box, the site creates a cookie to say that the user has read the alert and therefore we can carry on using cookies. If this is the case, then as long as the cookie is not deleted by the user in their browser, the pop up box won't be displayed again. The site uses Google Analytics to track each page visited.

Client: American Express Identity Defence Platinum

American Express Identity Defence Platinum

OVERVIEW:

American Express Identity Defence Platinum is a website that I built during my time working at Affinion International and it provides an extra service for American Express card holders where they can receive extra protection against identity theft as well as receive free credit reports and other benefits. This was built in a .NET environment, where we had a back end team who build our propietary tags which populate certain functions and data, but I was responsible for all of the front end development being the only developer building the site. CSS3 was used to produce rounded corners for various boxed content across the site, where graceful degradation was incorporated for older browsers using browser specific stylesheets and calling images into the css. I used Javascript to fix issues where I needed to manipulate form fields because some of our propietary tags didn't have certain functions built into them to perform the tasks that were required.

ID Schutz is a German site that I built during my time at Affinion International as part of a new Identity Theft package in partnership with American Express. This product is available to people wishing to protect their credit and identity from theft and fraud. The designs were mocked up by our design team and I was the sole developer on this project amd I introduced some CSS3 styles in terms of rounded corners and gradients, and provided graceful degredation by using images for browsers that didn't support CSS3. All of the form processes within the site function through the use of our propietary tags that we are able to plug into the .NET framework. This is predominantly an information based site where a user can contact the call centre for more information and to sign up to receive benefits such as online credit monitoring, identity theft insurance and identity legal advice.

The designs were mocked up by our design team and I was the sole developer on this project, having had all the necessary back end work packages developed by our back end team in the United States. I introduced some CSS3 styles in terms of box shadows and gradients, and provided graceful degredation by using images for browsers that didn't support CSS3. I used JQuery to produce a lightbox to enable the user to contact customer services. All of the form processes within the site function through the use of our propietary tags that we are able to plug into the .NET framework.

Client: MOB Motorsport

MOB Motorsport

OVERVIEW:

MOB Motorsport is a company that specialises in car parts. I was provided the design mockups in PSD format as there was already a designer on the project which always makes life a little easier. The main aim from the client was to provide a simple platform in order to showcase their products and allow their customers to make direct purchases from a trusted e-commerce system such as Paypal. I was able to use lots of JQuery and AJAX in order to pull in data rather than rely on PHP and SQL databases and also for the first time experimented with Cufon Fonts, which allow web admin to be able to use various fonts as images, making it easier to edit and still maintain a better look for text.
